In 2006, Davison Custom created  beautiful carpets for the stair hall of Victoria Mansion (Morse-Libby Mansion), an architecturally significant structure with grand interiors built in Portland, Maine between 1858 and 1860. As a historic house museum, we needed a carpet that was durable as well as historically accurate, because nearly 20,000 visitors tour the Mansion annually.  The project was complex and challenging, because our goal was to replicate the feeling of the original English woven carpet of the 1850s for which we had only black and white photographs.  We worked closely with the Davison Custom designer to interpret the details of the pattern and to choose a color palette that would harmonize with the original rugs from the 1850s that are still in the adjoining rooms of the first floor.  The carpets that Davison Custom created for the first floor, staircase, and second floor balcony of the Mansion are not only stunning, but they also look like they have “always been here,” a fine testament to the skill of the Davison Custom team.
